Boards (also known as GrayBox Boards or just GrayBox) is an anonymous English-speaking textboard created by Jax (GrayBox) that first went live around January 20th, 2024.
Development on Boards might have started some time around the January 17th to 19th range, as Jax has said that the base version of the dingleboard software only took her a couple of hours to develop. [1] [2] [3]
Bulletin boards are an integral part of any altchan, providing a way to seperate discussion on the site and cater to diverse interests. Boards uses an unconventional, more Discord-like naming system for it's boards, opting to use names like /General/ instead of /b/.
/General/ is the beating heart of Boards as a whole. It is a constantly evolving pool of retardation and awesomeness.
It is by far the most active board on the entire site, receiving about ~5 new threads daily. Its culture is a lot like ayashii.net's, though it can also be more like soyjak.party's at times. Don't ask how that works.
The board's users encourage new posts, and actively ignore unoriginal or reposted ones. Posting shitty content will likely result in a post deletion from the jannies.
The site's lack of a name field (and its underlying culture) has caused /General/ to place a large importance on anonymity. Anyone who ignores this unspoken rule will definitely get called a namefag, channy, or some other non-offensive insult.
Basically; be anonymous, or be a fag.
/Music/ is the board where all the snobby, tea-drinking, book-reading, smart-asses circlejerk together. Or at least it used to be...
Recently, /Music/ has returned back to it's original roots, now just being a small group of people sharing their music tastes and hobbies. Out of all the boards, this is by far the comfiest one. Second-most active, too!
/Music/ definitely has some semi-obsessive lurkers, the most recognizable one being Musicguy. He likes to post about his favorite movie and game OSTs. He has a very recognizable writing style and seems like a kind dude. He doesn't partake in the drama or toxicity of /General/ too often.
/Spam/ is the first and only board to ever be "added" by a community member. Boards user Jlon first reccomended the addition of this board on Janurary 24th, 2024 under thread #256.
The board was originally meant to be a place to post AA and copypastas, since - back then - those types of posts were seen as unessecary and spammy. Now, both AA and copypastas are integral parts of the site's culture, making /Spam/ completely useless.
Most of the stuff you'll see in /Spam/ consists of test posts or other webadmins promoting their site. Some obsessive faggots check the spam board constantly to see if Jax is testing out any new feautes.
During the first couple weeks of Boards's existance, there was a flood on new users arriving from Neocities. This board served as a place for all of them to gather.
Now, /Neocities/ is a glorifed community-ran link directory, consisting mostly of obscure personal sites and small altchans. There's nothing special about this board's culture, as it has none.
/Neocities/ was created at the same time as /Spam/, probably because they were both byproducts of a growing userbase. The two boards are basically cousins. [1]
